One of our focus areas in furthering our mission
of developing the music industry in South Africa is
to create opportunities for young and emerging artists
to aquire knowledge, skills and experience in various
aspects of music as an art form and a discipline.
To this end, we facilitate workshops throught the
year, many of which coincide with the Standard Bank
Joy of Jazz festival in Johannesburg in August.
Most of the workshops are offered to youg musicians
for free and we utilise the experience and passion
of South African and international musicians to facilitate
these sessions.
The workshops will focus on intricate music issues,
with topics like music theory and performance techniques;
business in the music industry; voice styles and techniques;
and orchestras and big bands; to mention a few.

students ended their sessions motivated and brimming
with ideas

Musical Giants share knowledge thanks to Standard
Bank Joy of Jazz
Some of the world’s leading jazz musicians –
appearing at this year’s Standard Bank Joy of
Jazz which takes place in Newtown from August 27 to
29 – will run free workshops teaching youngsters

Music Workshop and Theory: Soweto
One of the 10th Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival
music and theory workshops was held at the South West
Gauteng Collage (SWGC) (Soweto). The workshop showcased
a live performance by award-winning jazz artist, Andreas
Vollenweider.
