NOKUKHANYA DLAMINI

Nokukhanya has been a powerful vocal force, backing several of South Africa's most important artists. 2005 saw Nokukhanya take centre stage with the album "Tribute To You".

Nokukhanya is gifted with a voice that effortlessly travels across a musical landscape featuring everything from straight-ahead jazz, to Afro-Jazz, traditional music and soul. Growing up in Empangeni, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Nokukhanya always loved to perform. In the mid 1990s she was part of a gospel group that regularly played at weddings and other occasions. It was here that she first caught the attention of Jabu Hlongwane and the late Sihle Kunene who encouraged her to sing professionally. And while jazz is her overriding musical influence, Nokukhanya is as at home with more traditional material, breathing life into roots music in a way that is utterly fresh.
