MZWAKHE MBULI

Regarded as South Africa's poetry king, Mzwakhe is renowned for his outspoken commitment to freedom and justice.

Mzwakhe Mbuli was born in Sophiatown but his family moved to Meadowlands when Sophiatown was demolished. During the Apartheid years he was continuously refused a passport, he eventually received one in early 1995 - valid only for three weeks. Detained eight times, survived three assassination attempts, his house bombed and survived being tortured; his works were banned by the SABC and therefore never appeared on both Radio and Television.

Despite all this, his albums went gold. To date Mzwakhe has released nine albums and a book entitled "Before Dawn". Nearly seven foot tall, Mzwakhe dominates live shows with his presence and deep atmospheric vocals.
